The golden empty shell award

This is a wonderful Dutch initiative in the same category as we do in our shop. Crowdsourcing. Who visits our shop is often asked to give his/her opinion regarding a product that has not been launched on the market. The outcome of this enquiry enables our principal to adapt the product development to the optimum as indicated by our visitors. With the "Gouden Windei" (golden empty shell award) election the Dutch choose the product with the most misleading claims. Especially Big Food that suppl … read moreAfter Atkins: dr. Paul Clayton

To anyone who enjoys food gurus: I've found a new one in the field of healthy living. Dr. Paul Clayton (Oxford) is his name. He has a number of very inspiring insights which I cannot list all here, but here's a few: - the everage life expectancy in the 20th century has only risen by fighting child mortality - the cardiovascular and cancer epidemics are caused by bad food, smoking, drinking and to little exercise. He claims all this in a very thorough way of which I am impressed. Wrapped … read moreSalt aka the silent killer

USA based researchers have found a surprising outcome while investigating the consequences of a Campylobactor contamination. Normally, antibiotics are used to combat the symptoms of the illness, but this can better be done while using a smart compound derived from garlic. Unfortunately, eating a lot of garlic does not protect against contimation with the bacteria. However, it might be possible that the compound can be used to clean process equipment better in order to prevent contamination. T … read moreBad innovation

There’s a lot of innovation in the food industry. It seems the supermarkets are flooded with revolutionary new products, however, too often it’s merely a new label…. Or you’re bluntly being cheated with false promises. A good summary of “successful” innovations in that category you find here (Dutch website). Also, innovation in food is most of the time nothing more than a new label or a new packaging size. No wonder 80% of the “innovations” doesn’t make it until t … read moreScience is on our side

For the Dutch brand Skinnovation we introduce 2 products on the Dutch market. The company is a scientifical spin-off of the University Utrecht (the Netherlands). They have developed 2 wonderful products, for example the honey cream, a cream with 25% honey. Honey has been very effective for wound healing and against infections since ages. Other honey creams usually don't come any further than 5% honey..... You can even eat the cream (I stronly advise you don't, not very tasteful … read more
